What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is the assessment, treatment and prevention of human and animal movement disorders. It aids in the restoration of normal function, and helps to minimise pain and dysfunction. This in turn helps them to achieve the highest possible level of function in their daily lives. It also concerns the prevention of recurring injuries or impairments, in the work place, at home or during sports and hobbies. Physiotherapy also includes the promotion of community health.
Physiotherapists are trained in the use of skilled evaluation techniques, treatment techniques such as mobilisation, massage, dry needling and rehabilitation. They also use relaxation techniques, electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, heat and cryotherapy, traction and patient walking aids to help facilitate healing and return to function.
Physiotherapists are first line practitioners, which means that you do not have to see a GP or specialist before coming to us for treatment. We do, however, work closely with other members of your healthcare team to ensure that you get the best care possible.
